FAQ
Bridal Alterations FAQ
When should I schedule my first bridal fitting?
We recommend scheduling your first fitting 4–6 weeks before your wedding day.
After years of experience, we’ve found this timeline provides the best results by:
- Reducing the number of fittings needed
- Keeping alteration costs lower
- Allowing time for your shoes and undergarments to be finalized
- Helping ensure your gown fits beautifully on your wedding day
How many appointments will I need?
Most brides require three appointments.
First Fitting (60 minutes)
- Pin and mark your gown
- Discuss any custom changes
- Create your alteration plan
Second Fitting (30–40 minutes)
- Check the fit
- Make any final adjustments if needed
Final Try-On & Pick-Up
- Final fitting
- Optional professional pressing (additional fee)
- We can also help pack your gown into a carry-on suitcase if you’re traveling.
A fourth fitting is occasionally needed for custom design changes, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or significant size changes during the alteration process.
Where are appointments held?
All appointments take place at our private in-home studio:
Will and Ward Alterations Studio
Appointments are available Monday through Friday, with times the first one starting 9:00 a.m. and the last one starting at 6 p.m.
What should I bring to my fitting?
Please bring:
- Your wedding gown
- The shoes you plan to wear
- The undergarments or shapewear you plan to wear
If you’re deciding between multiple shoes or undergarments, feel free to bring all of your options.
Please Note: We cannot complete your fitting without your shoes and undergarments. If they are not brought to your appointment, a cancellation fee will apply.
Changing shoes or undergarments after alterations have been completed may require additional alterations and charges.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes! You’re welcome to bring a guest to your appointment.
To provide a safe, focused, and enjoyable experience for every bride, we ask that all guests be 18 years or older unless prior approval has been given.
Why aren’t children allowed at appointments?
Our studio is an active sewing workspace with pins, irons, sewing equipment, and delicate gowns.
An adults-only environment allows us to:
- Focus completely on your fitting
- Maintain a safe workspace
- Protect your gown throughout the alteration process
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, we ask for at least 24 hours’ notice.
Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice will incur a $50 cancellation fee, which will be added to your alteration invoice.
This policy also applies if your appointment cannot be completed because the required shoes or undergarments were not brought.
Do you offer gown pressing?
Yes! Professional gown pressing is available before your final pickup appointment for an additional fee.
How can I contact you?
If you have questions before your appointment, we’re happy to help.
